When a lawyer gets hit by spammers, expect a lawsuit Spam and phishing Legal Lawsuits One thing is for certain, if you are going to spam a lawyer, you can expect a fight. It is the blood and besides placing your name into a highly publicized concern like the legality of Spam can be worth millions. This is the exact situation that has caused a Manhattan legal firm to take action. According to the documents, which were filed May 26, 2005 a New York City lawyer filed a lawsuit claiming that his email address was used to send messages promoting a stock report. You may remember when e-Told was a dotcom before becoming a dotorg in mid 2003. We had to deal with a series of Spam attacks by a group of scammers from New Zealand working out of Internet Cafes. That group spoofed the e-Told email address to hundreds of thousands of email addresses including U.S. Government representatives. Eventually causing the loss of the dotcom domain. The aftermath left e-Told requiring the change of domains, and as well, endured financial losses during the switch to a dotorg address. What can happen does happen and if it takes a lawyer to attempt to sue the Spammer, then go for it. The lawsuit was filed against China Digital Media, which is a Nevada corporation with operations in China. The ones who are promoting are unknown, so named in the lawsuit is "John Does 1-10." The lawyer's email address was used as the sender in the Spam. He is seeking millions in damages. Any one who has had their email address used as a sender of Spam will easily remember the time lost having to deal with thousands of bounced emails to be deleted. In the case of e-Told's attacks, at least 400 personalized emails were sent to those who took the time to reply with complaints regarding receiving the Spam. According to the lawsuit the Spam was sent on April 29 and May 3. The amount of bounced email caused server problems and overflowed the inbox causing lost email. The main worry of any company is that there may be receivers of the Spam who will think the legal firm is endorsing the stock.
